Key responsibilities

 

At the ABB Corporate Research Center Germany (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd4BLrNbvlc), we research and prototype innovative technologies that shape ABB’s future product portfolio for sustainable automation, digitalization, and electrification. We work in cross-functional teams at the intersection of industrial research, end-customers, start-ups, and universities globally.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • You bridge the gap between academic AI and machine learning research and industrial applications. You adopt cutting-edge AI technologies to enhance the reliability of industrial assets, improve the efficiency and resilience of industrial processes and drive the future of autonomous operations.
  • You explore how graphs can benefit various AI and machine learning solutions and bring them closer to real world to address industrial challenges.
  • You work with diverse types of industrial data, such as textual, tabular, image, and time series data.
  • You build proof-of-concepts and prototypes that convince internal stakeholders to commercialize your research results.
  • You work closely with ABB’s end-customers to develop innovative industrial AI solutions, e.g. in public funded consortia projects like https://explain-project.eu/, https://keen-plattform.de/, or https://www.projekt-aprosys.de/
  • You participate in agile applied-research projects and work collaboratively with global ABB product development teams, ABB’s technology partners and academic institutions.
  • You present your work to expert and management audiences within and outside ABB, as well as at scientific conferences/journals and trade fairs.
  • You secure intellectual property by patent applications.
  • You strongly develop your technical and soft skills to boost your career at ABB.

Qualifications for the role

  • You hold a PhD in computer science, mathematics, data science or a comparable field.
  • You have deep expertise in graphs, such as knowledge graphs, ontology, graph neural networks, as well as sound expertise in AI and machine learning.
  • You have hands-on experience with graph technologies, such as graph databases (e.g., neo4j, GraphDB), graph modeling frameworks (e.g., RDF, OWL, SHACL), and Natural Language Processing techniques such as Named Entity Recognition, Relationship Extraction, Entity Resolution, and Entity Disambiguation, in industrial applications.
  • You have hands-on experience in software development and ideally also programming for data-driven solutions, incl. data engineering.
  • You are well acquainted with Python; hands-on experience with MLOps and/or DevOps is beneficial.
  • Domain know-how in certain engineering fields, such as automation and control, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering, is a plus.
  • Proficient English skill is mandatory, additional German skill is beneficial.
