Information regarding the increased fee for the Studierendenwerk
The past weeks we noticed that the increased fee for the Studierendenwerk let to some confusion within the student body. Maybe you have a few questions yourself. That is way we want to provide you with more information and explain the reasons for the increase. First of all a short overview:
For the next semester (winter term 2016/2017) the contribution fee will be 73,50 Euro and therefore increased by 3,70 Euro compared to last year. Moreover, the next years it will be raised to 77,20 Euro in winter term 2017/2018 and to 80,90 Euro in winter term 2018/2019 (all fees include the “Sockelbeitrag” of 20,80 Euros for the semesterticket). We briefly want to explain why we support the increase and the decision of the Studierendenwerk. At first our fee is very low compared to other universities in Baden-Württemberg and has hardly been raised the past years. The additional money will be used for new construction projects like the expansion of student living opportunities or other restorations. Furthermore, the increasing energy and maintenance costs are other explanations for the increased fee. All in all, the extra money will be utilized for student projects which will lead in the end to benefits for all students. After 2018/2019 another increase is – for the time being – not planned.
